Workum is a spot in the IJsselmeer (Lake IJssel, spelling: Lake Yssel), a shallow lake of some 1250 km² in the central Netherlands.
You have 1 meter shallow water for more than 500m, good for beginners.
There’s a camping site and kite/windsurfshop directly at the kitezone.

Directions:

• From Groningen: take the A7 and exit in Bolsward. Follow the B359 to Workum.
• From Arnheim: on the A50 until Zwolle and then onto the B50 until Emmeloord, then A6, and take exit 17 “Lemmer” and on B359 to Workum.
In Workum follow the signs for “Camping It Soal”. Pass the campsite until the end of the street. 20 meters before entering go to the right for the parking. Cross the parking, over the bridge park at the water.

Beach rules:

Don’t come in the Natural protected area. Launch in the kitezone.

Weather: northern europe • Temperatures: 0-15°C in Autumn-Winter, 15-30°C in Spring-Summer. From September to April you’ll need a wetsuit (water can get to 0°C in December-January). • Wind: Best wind is in Autumn-Spring. The spot depends on low pressure an thermical winds in July an August. Best kite sizes are 12-20 sqm. S-SW-W are best winds. E is usually gusty.
